The 67th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 16th. Please refer to my Emmy musings for this category for a detailed analysis of the contenders, and, as always, chime in below in the comments with any thoughts of your own.
Last year’s nominees: Bryan Cranston, Jeff Daniels, Jon Hamm, Woody Harrelson, Matthew McConaughey, Kevin Spacey
The competition: Three of last year’s nominees aren’t eligible this year because their shows didn’t air: Cranston, Harrelson, and McConaughey. The likeliest to snag one of the open spots is Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul). Terrence Howard (Empire) will probably join them too, and he’ll face competition from Dominic West (The Affair), Kyle Chandler (Bloodline), and Justin Theroux (The Leftovers), as well as previously eligible contenders like Michael Sheen (Masters of Sex), Matthew Rhys (The Americans), and Aden Young (Rectify). I’m betting on someone who’s only been nominated once before, Timothy Olyphant (Justified), to snag the last spot as a final hurrah for his departed show.
The predicted nominees: Jeff Daniels, Jon Hamm, Terrence Howard, Bob Odenkirk, Timothy Olyphant, Kevin Spacey
The predicted winner: Hamm
