What I’m Watching: The Dropout (Penultimate Episode)

The Dropout: Season 1, Episode 7 “Heroes” (B+)

It’s continually baffling to see how the response to a mountain of incredible accusations is just to express anger at them being asked in the first place rather than to actually address any of them. David wanted to get particular answers from Elizabeth so that he could fight back on her behalf, but it’s hard to believe that she actually told him everything and he was still ready to defend her rather than suggest an alternate strategy. The meeting that he and Linda had with John and Judith was highly condescending, but between all the denials and refusals to provide information, they shared enough to give them confidence to publish it. Given David’s call to Elizabeth to tell her that they were running it right after they walked out, that might have been the intent, but it’s going to be hard to turn back now, since it’s not always possible to just deflect without ever having to defend your own behavior. Linda’s concern that Sunny was going to physically prevent Mark from leaving with the files was legitimate, and he was perfectly ready to threaten Elizabeth right back when he got the sense that she was going to blame everything on him. Tyler repeatedly lying to his grandfather even after he gave him the space to tell the truth was a questionable move, but the damage is done now, and Theranos is going to have enough damage control to do without necessarily having time to go after him with all they’ve got.
