What I’m Watching: Dexter

Dexter: Season 7, Episode 7 “Chemistry” (B+)

For people who say that they’re never going to see each other again, Dexter and Hannah sure saw a lot of each other in this hour. That’s a great thing, however, since they just can’t seem to keep their hands off each other, and they’re able to have conversations in which both of them are brutally honest. Hannah made a great speech mid-episode, asking Dexter if he was going to handle Price like he handled her and telling him that sometimes life just has to be taken without any need for dressing it up. Hannah legitimizing killing as surrendering to nature’s way and survival of the fittest is a fascinating outlook which seems to have astounded Dexter, who couldn’t comprehend why he walking away from someone who, compared to all the women who had ever been in his life, actually understood and accepted him. Price passing out and dying in Dexter’s apartment while he was being blackmailed was intense, and it’s no surprise that Price’s death fueled Deb to ask Dexter the awful favor of killing Hannah for her. I have no idea how he’s going to worm his way out of that one. He didn’t have time to deal with Hannah before because of Isaak, and now he’ll have to hope that Isaak doesn’t lose his Miami Metro tails since he has now egged him on more by telling him exactly how he killed Victor. Even Nadia doesn’t support Quinn indebting himself to the Koshka Brotherhood, and giving Batista a check for $10,000 for his restaurant isn’t going to sufficiently ease Dexter’s conscience. As if we have nothing else to worry about, Laguerta posing at Dexter’s name while looking at a list is definitely not a good sign, and a tease of what’s sure to come later on in the season.
