Dexter: Season 7, Episode 5 “Swim Deep” (B+)
It’s hard not to love a villain like Isaak. Seeing him so calmly sitting in Dexter’s apartment with a gun and some cleanup materials was both entertaining and frightening at the same time, and Dexter had his work cut out for him in figuring out a way to get him off his tail. Leading him into enemy territory should have worked, and it’s no surprise that Isaak left behind blood evidence in his cold-blooded execution of a whole room full of people. Hearing about Isaak’s spiteful grandfather in jail suggests that Dexter should really hope that Isaak doesn’t manage to get off on a technicality, since Dexter and those he loves are definitely in danger if that happens. Dexter is so busy focusing on Isaak that he’s playing his hand so openly with Hannah, who he knows is much guiltier than she claims and sees no reason to deny it since she has immunity for all crimes committing with Wayne. It’s a good thing that, for once, Deb is the one helping Dexter by getting in on Laguerta’s investigation and taking possession of an extremely incriminating photo of Dexter. Harshly telling Batista to back off his suspicions about Mike’s killer was not a good move, and something tells me the first person he’ll go to is Laguerta. Quinn, unbeknownst to him, is being affected by everything going on around him with Isaak and Dexter, and not reporting that payoff that somehow found its way into his car can’t lead anywhere good.
