Dexter: Season 7, Episode 6 “Do the Wrong Thing” (B+)
Kudos to this show for, seven seasons in, managing to still thrill and surprise with multiple season arcs all moving in fascinating new directions. Dexter’s plot to kill Hannah was taking long enough with Speltzer and Isaak to distract him, and it’s a different situation than ever before since she’s well aware of who he is and, according to Harry, she might even be trying to kill him too. Their multiple run-ins were fantastic, and Dexter asking her out was an interesting development. Intoxicating her with the snow was actually quite romantic, and she delivered the best comeback to Dexter’s pre-kill speeches ever heard on this show. Dexter sparing her life and having sex with her on his table is certainly a first, and I’m so intrigued to see where this is headed. Sal suspecting Hannah’s true nature and sharing it with Deb was going to be problematic when Dexter was set to kill her, but it’s even worse now that he’s decided to grant her a pardon and bond with her over their murderous impulses. I’d love to see if Deb and Sal could hit it off for real since she could really use a break, but I doubt there will be any time for that. Laguerta’s theories about Jordan Chase are disturbingly close to the truth, and the more Deb learns about what Dexter did, the less likely she is to want to protect him in the long run. Batista wanting to retire and buy a restaurant seems somewhat random, and I worry that he’s the next one to die since that would give him a way out. Quinn was smart to give back George’s money at first, and he’s definitely going down once the evidence he took allows Isaak to go free.
