Emmy Nominees: Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series

My predictions: 4/6, picking Betty White and Cloris Leachman over Mayim Bialik and Merritt Wever

I’m quite surprised that two veteran sure things – Betty White and Cloris Leachman – got swapped out in favor of two younger, unrewarded actresses who have crucial supporting roles in shows I don’t watch regularly: Mayim Bialik (The Big Bang Theory) and Merritt Wever (Nurse Jackie). I’m most perplexed by Wever’s inclusion since the popularity of her show is most definitely not on the rise, whereas Bialik’s series certainly in. White still managed to knock Jeff Probst out of the reality host category, so she still has a shot at Emmy this year. Also out of the race for the first time is Jane Lynch from “Glee,” which was almost entirely ignored this year, and Jane Krakowski is gone too. I would have loved to see Cheryl Hines make an appearance for “Suburgatory,” but no luck on that front. I was right about Kathryn Joosten (Desperate Housewives) earning a posthumous nomination, joining returning nominees Kristen Wiig (Saturday Night Live) and the “Modern Family” ladies, Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara.

Who should win? Bowen
Who will win? It will depend on episodes, but I suspect Bowen again.
