Emmy Predictions: Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series

The 64th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 19th. Please refer to my Emmy musings for this category for a detailed analysis of the contenders, and, as always, chime in below in the comments with any thoughts of your own.

Last year’s nominees: Ty Burrell, Chris Colfer, Jon Cryer, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ed O’Neill, Eric Stonestreet

The competition: One slot is open in this race this year, and that’s Cryer’s, since he’s been promoted to lead actor. It’s very likely that all four “Modern Family” men, Ty Burrell, Eric Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Ed O’Neill will all be back. Chris Colfer (Glee), however, may not make the cut after being snubbed by both Golden Globe and SAG voters this past year. Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) has been vying for a nomination for the past two years, so hopefully he’ll finally make the cut this time. Potential new nominees include Max Greenfield (New Girl), Tony Hale (Veep), Jake Johnson (New Girl), and James Spader (The Office). Past nominee Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) could return after being snubbed last year, and Simon Helberg (The Big Bang Theory) could earn his first nomination this year.

The predicted nominees: Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Max Greenfield, Nick Offerman, Ed O’Neill, Eric Stonestreet

The predicted winner: Nick Offerman
