What I’m Watching: Longmire

Longmire: Season 1, Episode 7 “8 Seconds” (B+)

This episode really delved into the personal lives of the three main law enforcement agents on this show. There aren’t many boundaries between these cops, as evidenced by Vic getting interrupted while she was having sex with her husband because Walt was drinking at the Red Pony. Michael Mosley is a perfect choice to play Vic’s husband, since he’s not entirely likeable and really manages to capture the anger that Walt taking Vic away from him has caused him. Walt managed to perform just fine while under the influence, but it’s still never a good thing to be drunk and then get caught up in the middle of a police investigation, no matter which side. Asking Henry to shock him seemed like an awfully self-loathing act, but he managed to earn it when he baited Henry into doing it. Branch held up well under interrogation when Walt asked him who he was sleeping with since he thought it was related to the case, and it’s surprising that he’s willing to quit the race to be with Cady. Clearly, his father, played by Gerald McRaney of fatherly fame on “Jericho,” doesn’t think that he should step down, and he’s not against using subversive tactics to take down the incumbent. There was plenty of suspected adultery going on in this hour, and it’s nice that one positive, healthy relationship may have come out of this that Walt no longer considers to be cheating. He could use a personal life, especially since everyone around him seems to have one.
