Ozark: Season 4, Episode 10 “You’re the Boss” (B+)
I thought for a moment that maybe seeing Ben at the start of the episode meant that he was somehow still alive, but, as I mentioned in my review of the previous episode, that’s not the kind of thing that happens on this show. Instead, it was a reminder of how it’s impossible to escape the inevitable, even if Marty and Wendy seem to be hanging on for dear life. Marty managed to do very well in Mexico considering the obstacles against him, and carefully reviewing the financials of each account was a good way for him to exert his authority. I didn’t expect him to find an ally in Camila, who I had presumed would be filled with rage about the death of her son, but instead she provided him important counsel in dealing with an element that threatened his leadership. Ordering someone to be executed is a position he hasn’t quite been in before, and it’s going to eat away at him. The bigger issue is that Navarro, despite acting quickly when he was stabbed in prison, is now in a coma, so Marty is really acting on his own. After deploying her latest ally in law enforcement against Ruth and seeing that it wasn’t effective, Wendy is back to threatening Claire, something that obviously won’t carry as much weight without the force of the cartel behind her, but maybe she’ll be able to have Marty scare her by deploying one of his new acolytes. Ruth and Frank Jr.’s newfound alliance is definitely intriguing, and I liked that Ruth rejected both the Darlene and Marty archetypes cast for her.
