Star Trek: Picard: Season 2, Episode 9 “Hide and Seek” (B+)
Well, this didn’t turn out the way I had expected. Picard’s decision to bring the Borg Queen back in time with him seemed like it was going to have disastrous consequences for all of humanity, but it was Agnes who came up with a much better solution that paints the Borg as not nearly as villainous as they’ve always seemed. I like that, before she left, the Queen got to engage with the Emergency Combat Hologram, which was a fantastic way to bring Elnor back and apparently was enough him that he was happy to see a shocked Raffi. It looked like Seven wasn’t going to make it when the Queen impaled her with one of her tentacles, but instead she just had to become part Borg again, which was likely inevitable. I’m curious to see what the two Renees will entail and what adventures still remain in this time. Teresa did not want to let Rios go back to the future, and he had his own clever programming with the blaster so that being from the future might not have been important to fire it but having the right DNA was. I don’t know enough about Star Trek history to know if this Dr. Soong has a role to play in the future that might exist and whether there are more corrections to be done to undo the damage Q wrought. Q himself may well be part of the equation and need to be stopped in order to preserve a positive future.
