What I’m Watching: White Collar
White Collar: Season 3, Episode 5 “Veiled Threat” (B+)
This was a fun episode for many reasons. It seems like all Peter and Neal do these days is go undercover, but this time presented a great twist. Sara’s advice on how Neal could repel women worked a bit too well, and him not even getting one bed was a pretty unusual circumstance for the ladykiller. Jones was entertaining in a way that the character often doesn’t have the chance to be. Peter’s initial nervous distinction between a conversation and an interrogation didn’t seem too promising, but he really nailed it, eliciting an immediate bid of $15,000. His charade was highly amusing, as were a few of his lines, “I don’t know who’s going to kill me first, my wife or my fiancée” and “It wasn’t me, it was you.” Neal panicked quite a bit when Peter had to tango on the spot, but Peter really impressed. I enjoyed Neal calling for Mr. Phil Landerer, and Neal and Sara hiding in the speakeasy room sketching for Peter was great. What’s nice is that this show does have a sentimental side, as Neal cooks not one but two romantic dinners, one for Diana as a thank-you for bidding on him, and for Sara after she calls him out on them never actually having been on a date. And of course Peter prepares the perfect wedding for him and Elizabeth, where they are married by the twice-ordained, tax-free Mozzie, who may occasionally be known as Haversham when the situation calls for it.
