What I’m Watching: Resident Alien (Season Premiere)

Resident Alien: Season 2, Episode 1 “Old Friends” (B+)

I’m so thrilled to have this wonderful show back, and what a packed season opener this was! Harry losing his memory after the crash and diagramming out his entire superior alien universe on a whiteboard for all the doctors and nurses was very entertaining, and I like that he was then stuck believing he was Jerry Orbach from “Law and Order.” The best line from that part of the episode was definitely “Shtupping a child is a class-a felony, you’ll have to call Benson and Stabler.” Talking to his octopus cousin in the fish tank at the restaurant snapped him right out of it, and it’s great that Asta is now there to help him process all the things he still can’t comprehend about what it means to be human, like not kissing someone’s eyelids. Speaking of romance, Ben and Kate got quite into each other in the wake of their big night, leading to a lot of public displays of affection and a wild montage of trying out every possible sexual thing, which apparently they’re not done with since the hair Max found on his chest showed up at the same time as Kate’s tail peeked out when she ran in to check on him. I love the dynamic that Max and Sahar have, where she noted that he clearly had no enhanced intelligence by his inability to answer that question, and that he had no idea what “we’ve been compromised” meant when he radioed it to Asta. Mike’s theory about how the killer probably “sat here fishing, like a psychopath” was hilariously random, and it’s nice that he’s finally starting to acknowledge Liv after his father pushed him to confront the loss of his partner.
