What I’m Watching: Resident Alien

Resident Alien: Season 2, Episode 8 “Alien Dinner Party” (B+)

I was very worried that there was only an episode or two left in this season but I’m thrilled to know that, when it returns at some later date, there are actually eight more installments, up six from last year’s ten. I thought I recognized Alan Tudyk’s “Dollhouse” costar Enver Gjokaj as the alien sniper in the opening moments of the episode who shot David off the bridge, and it’s definitely a game-changer to learn that there’s another alien race already on Earth planning to take over. That puts Harry into an interesting position since he’s going to want to protect Asta and might just have to same all of humanity in the process. While the antics of trying to find the fast-moving and highly destructive baby alien were entertaining, I liked watching Mike watch Harry eat all the meat with his hands, and how he got himself involved in Ben and Kate’s business, accidentally revealing that Ben kissed D’Arcy. That news wasn’t great given how D’Arcy had been so closely helping Kate all episode with her potential pregnancy, and the actual talking that Ben and Kate started doing later was quickly overtaken by a return to their fantasy role play. Liv had a great role in this hour, cutting Ben off after he didn’t believe in her deviled eggs and then expressing how she enjoys watching other couples fight before feeling a connection to the nearby alien. Jai asking Asta to do something just the two of them on her birthday was also very sweet and made Asta extremely happy. He’s gone now, but I did recognize the actor who played the man who tried to kill Harry, Robert Moloney, from his role as Izzy’s father on “You Me Her,” a little-known show I greatly enjoyed. I’m looking forward to this show’s return, whenever that may be.
