The Flash: Season 8, Episode 6 “Impulsive Excessive Disorder” (B-)
This show has had a strange airing schedule recently, with season seven running almost every week from March to July, then the first five episodes of season eight, which were all part of the Armageddon crossover, airing at the end of last year. Now the show is back for what may be a regular run, though this episode felt rather disconnected since it only featured a few characters who have most often been tangential to the story. We knew the other, less responsible Nora a lot better, and now she’s the one who has to keep Bart focused and try to prevent him from screwing up the timeline too much. It makes sense that the show would bring back fan favorite Jay Garrick, who has been through a lot over the years, though I had honestly forgotten whether he was alive or dead. I do enjoy the opportunity to see characters before they got to the point they are now, like Cecile snapping at Joe when he tried to talk to her and she was furious about her ex. It’s also jarring to see Eddie again, a character who was such a big part of this show in season one but has been gone for so long. Bart got his chance to be a hero and even managed to modify his thoughts so that he didn’t get revealed as a time traveler. I appreciated Jay joking that he was headed to an important meeting with President Luthor when Nora and Bart got back from fixing their damage. Something obviously has changed, but it’s going to take some time – and a chance to see our regular characters – to understand what.
