What I’m Watching: Ghosts

Ghosts: Season 1, Episode 10 “Possession” (B+)

I wouldn’t necessarily call this show sophisticated, but it does seem like its actors have a lot of fun. Utkarsh Ambudkar has it hardest since he has to pretend he can’t see anyone else, and that Jay doesn’t know what any of the ghosts sound or look like aside from what Sam tells him. It was very entertaining to see him emulate actress Rebecca Wisocky and Hetty’s old-fashioned stuffiness, which came in particularly handy – and nearly screwed things up – when they had to cook up an impressive meal to woo the wedding planner played by Enrico Colantoni. It made a lot of sense that Hetty would want to do all the things she hadn’t been able to for so long, and that she would go nuts trying things like chips and candy to experience them. Trying to drive away and visit Paris was her undoing and fortunately bumped her right out of Jay’s body without either of them getting hurt, and her culinary talents combined with the addition of Cheetos dust was just what Michael Davenport needed to know that Jay and Sam should be his collaborators. It’s probably for the best that no exorcisms were needed, and I wouldn’t mind this scenario happening again. Jay channeling Hetty to make Sam into him was a funny moment, especially when both realized that it wasn’t a good thing that she found that attractive. Sasappis’ curiosity about what Sour Patch Kids tasted like was also fun, and I’m sure anyone but Hetty would have been even more eager to regain the ability to live.
