What I’m Watching: Resident Alien

Resident Alien: Season 2, Episode 6 “An Alien in New York” (B+)

It’s weird to see Harry and Asta in New York, since she seems so excited by all that’s happening there and he’s just much more concerned about the smell and enticed by the meat he can put on pizza. Casually mentioning the bag of cash that he happened to find in his house has put Asta onto the scent of the real Harry’s dealings with and involvement in Sam’s murder, though she just got a much bigger information drop when she got asked by the party hostess how long she’s known that Harry was an alien. Following the tragic death by dog of his cousin #42, Harry probably could use an opportunity to lighten up, but taking LSD and seeing paintings come alive as his alien tentacles appear in Times Square may not be the best way to do that. I liked the bonding that was going on back in Patience, with Liv finally reaching Mike as he reluctantly agreed to open up about losing his partner and how he didn’t want to lose her too. While it’s fun to watch, I’m not sure how I feel about Ben and D’Arcy getting so close, because even if it’s not something romantic, she is encouraging him to be himself around Kate, something that will likely drive them apart. Hopefully the friendship with D’Arcy and Kate have will be enough to stop that from happening, but it hardly seems like a good thing, which will only further make Ben desperate to save his town if he’s at risk of losing his family too.
