What I’m Watching: Snowpiercer

Snowpiercer: Season 3, Episode 6 “Born to Bleed” (B)

Well, that all escalated pretty quickly. Pike narrating the opening ended up meaning that this was his final appearance, racked with guilt at first by what he had done and then unwilling to compromise when Layton realized that he was the culprit while he was holding the baby. Zara did the quickest about-face, declaring that she would kill him herself and ready to do anything to protect her newborn child. Finding Asha after that and discovering that the New Eden story was all a lie only made Pike more determined to continue his crusade, and Josie was the voice of reason who avoided all-out war by having them fight in typical tail fashion. Layton was never going to die even though it did look iffy for a while there, and now they’re mourning Pike in the way that they do, which will hopefully give Layton the guidance he needs to ensure that others don’t similarly revolt before they reach their destination. Wilford, of all people, seems surprisingly open to it, though he’s also a shadow of the man he used to be, a reality that devastated and infuriated Audrey when she snuck in to see him. I’m not sure why we still need to have LJ around, but having her show Till that she was sucking on her dead father’s spare eyeball was a reminder that she’s a loose cannon. I liked the newfound friendship between Alex and Carly, two members of the next generation who are resilient and make a good team with Till and Roche to keep law and order while simultatenously looking ahead to the future. And then there’s Ruth, who has gone through the most significant changes but is going to need some time to get over trusting and falling for Pike.
