What I’m Watching: Euphoria (Season Finale)

Euphoria: Season 2, Episode 8 “All My Life, My Heart Has Yearned for a Thing I Cannot Name” (B+)

Well, this was quite the finale. The play took an even more dramatic turn when Cassie marched up on stage to confront her sister and invite the audience to give her a hand for her truly difficult life, and things only went downhill from there. Maddy chasing her offstage led to what was apparently a foot-to-face confrontation, and it’s hard to know where the chips will fall with all of that. I thought, as I’m sure many did, that Nate was headed to kill his father, but instead he had him arrested, one of two intense police raids. The other ended far more tragically, with Ash barricading himself in the bathroom and then trying to take out as many cops as he could before they eventually killed him. That Fezco will still likely have to go to prison makes it all the melancholier, especially since he and Lexi, this season’s breakout character, developed such a close and warm relationship. Rue and Lexi connecting and discussing the play was one of the episode’s best scenes, as was Rue getting to forgive Elliot, along with his very memorable musical performance. It’s sad to think that Rue and Jules won’t get back together, at least not anytime soon, and it’s difficult to know what anything will be like when this show returns for its much-anticipated third season. I found season one of this show to be riveting but not always consistent, and this year has really blown me away. Emmys for the entire cast would be a great idea.

Season grade: A-
Season MVP: Too hard to pick!
